Chapter 32: Law Firm Partners & TedX Talks

July 10, 2018

Hey! It’s Tee, and I’ve been away for a while trying to get my life. LOL. When I say the last few months have been BUSY, the word busy maybe an understatement. Working to ensure
work-life balance and becoming a business boss has kept me moving for the past few weeks. You know it’s always more difficult to get your own life in order than it is to help people. So, that’s what I’ve been doing. I’ve made mistakes and learned lessons, and I wanted to share the mistakes I’ve made and the lessons I’ve learned.

I’m going to give you the mistakes first because I can’t say that I learned much without these mistakes. Mistakes are the catalyst to change and progress.

1. MISTAKE: Trying to balance everything ALONE. I knew I wanted to be successful,
but I didn’t know it was going to look like starting my own business. A year ago, I would
have laughed at you if you told me I would be a business owner. Ha. Maybe work at a
business, but not own one. In owning a business, I now know that doing it alone will burn
you out. I didn't know trying to do it alone would burn me out as quickly as it did. The
mistake of trying to be everything all the time WILL bite you in the bottom.

SOLUTION: I have a new PARTNER at my law firm! YAYYYYYY! This was the best
business decision I’ve made thus far for my business. The fresh vision and perspective
has shifted our brand so much. Bringing her on board has significantly changed my
business and my renewed passion for the law firm. She’s amazing as well. Learn more
about her at www.moorelegalsolutions.com

2. MISTAKE: Holding on to my story as a mom in fear of not having it all together. For 3
years, I’ve been a working mom and a business owner without sharing my story. First, I
worked briefly outside of the home, and then I started my own. I was being a mom, wife, daughter, and friend at the same time. I was losing it as I tried to present a “perfect” persona. Whewww! What was I thinking?

SOLUTION: I shared my REAL story about motherhood and business life in a TedX
Talk! It went amazing and the audience was moved by my transparency and realness. I
was able to share my story in about eight minutes, and it felt like a weight was lifted from my shoulders. When you think you should keep quiet is the time you should share your
story.

3. MISTAKE: Waiting for an opportunity to come to me. I was always hoping that I would find the right in-house counsel position. Yet, it didn’t work out that way. I could never find the one for my lifestyle.

SOLUTION: I created my OWN opportunities. Is it difficult in these entrepreneurial streets? YES! Is it time-consuming and ongoing work? You bet! Is it worth it? I’m sure it is! Now that I’m a few years into this journey, I can’t imagine doing anything else. I would have never known this freedom had I not stepped out on faith and tried it.

Everyone isn’t cut out to be an entrepreneur. However, many of us have the gifts and skills to make a name for ourselves. We have the persistence to build our own legacies and create our own opportunities.

So, go make a few mistakes, learn some valuable lessons, tell your story, and build a legacy!

You've got this!
